About WildJoule

Why this site exists

I started WildJoule for a simple reason: when I went looking for honest, no-nonsense advice on off-grid and backup power, most of what I found was either thin listicles chasing commissions or spec sheets copied straight off the manufacturer’s box. Nobody was doing the boring, useful part — the actual watt-hour math that tells you whether a unit will really work for you, and straight talk about the trade-offs.

Power you can count on isn’t a given everywhere. I’ve spent a lot of my life somewhere the grid drops out without warning, and that’s what pulled me into this world — solar, batteries, power stations, the lot. Once you’ve had to plan your day around whether the lights will stay on, you stop seeing backup power as a hobby and start seeing it as something that genuinely matters.

How we evaluate (and what we don’t pretend)

Here’s the honest part most affiliate sites won’t tell you: I don’t own a warehouse of gear, and I haven’t bench-tested every product on this site. Pretending otherwise would be easy — and dishonest. Instead, every recommendation here is built from:

  • Manufacturer specifications and datasheets, read carefully and cross-checked
  • Independent tester data and certifications where they exist
  • Hundreds of aggregated real-owner reviews, for how things actually hold up over time
  • The real sizing math — so you buy the right unit, not the biggest one

Wherever I’m leaning on someone else’s testing rather than my own hands, I say so plainly, right on the page. That honesty is the whole point of this site.

What you can trust

  • No paid placements. No brand pays to be featured or ranked here. Picks are chosen on the merits.
  • Honest affiliate disclosure. WildJoule earns a small commission if you buy through some links, at no extra cost to you. That’s what keeps the site free — and it never changes which product gets recommended.
  • No fake prices or star ratings. Prices change constantly, so we link you to the live price instead of quoting a stale one.
  • We’ll tell you when to skip. Every guide has a “skip if” section — because sometimes the honest answer is “you don’t actually need this.”

Who’s behind it

WildJoule is written and run by me, Shanto. I’m not an electrician or a manufacturer — I’m someone who got deep into this because reliable power genuinely matters to me, and who cares about getting the details right. If a number on this site is ever wrong, I want to fix it — reach me at hello@wildjoule.com.

Thanks for reading. If this site ever saves you from buying the wrong thing, that’s exactly what it’s for.
