Power Station Keeps Shutting Off? 6 Causes and How to Fix Each (2026)

How we evaluated: WildJoule has not reproduced these faults on a bench. The settings, thresholds and error codes below come from user manuals and official help pages: EcoFlow DELTA 2 app manual and DELTA 3 1500 manual, Bluetti AC180 manual, Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 manual and Jackery’s auto-shutdown article, and Anker SOLIX’s power-saving mode page, checked October 17, 2026. Menus change with firmware, so names may differ slightly on your unit.

If your power station keeps shutting off, the most likely cause isn’t a fault at all. It’s an energy-saving timer doing exactly what it was set to do. Jackery’s Explorer 1000 v2 ships with Energy Saving Mode on, and it turns the AC outlets off after 12 hours if the load stays at 25 W or less. Anker SOLIX’s power-saving mode shuts the AC or car port off within an hour under 10 W. A CPAP, a router on standby or a fridge between cycles can sit right under those lines. After timers, the usual culprits are overload, temperature, a low-charge cutoff and heat build-up, roughly in that order.

Short answer

Shuts off after hours with a small load: turn off the energy-saving / ECO / AC timeout setting. Shuts off the moment something starts: overload or surge; check the error code and the appliance’s starting watts. Shuts off in a cold garage or hot car: temperature protection. Shuts off with charge still showing: a discharge limit set in the app, or a low-charge cutoff.

Quick honesty note: I haven’t sat next to every brand’s unit waiting for it to cut out. I wrote this the way I’d want it written if my own lights were on the line, which happens more often than I’d like where I’ve lived. So it’s built from the manuals and official help pages, with the actual numbers, because “check your settings” isn’t much help at 2 a.m.

1. Energy-saving mode and timeouts (the most common cause)

Every major brand has some version of this, and the defaults catch people out.

Jackery: On the Explorer 1000 v2, Energy Saving Mode is on by default. If the AC load is 25 W or less (or USB/car output 2 W or less), outputs turn off after 12 hours. Separately, the unit’s standby auto-shutdown defaults to 2 hours and can be changed in the app. The manual says you can disable Energy Saving Mode by long-pressing the AC and main power buttons together.

EcoFlow: The DELTA 2 app manual lists an AC timeout (30 minutes to 24 hours, or always on; default 12 hours), a whole-unit timeout (default 2 hours) and a screen timeout (default 5 minutes). The DELTA 3 1500 manual says the AC socket turns off if it’s idle for a set period, and that it can be set to “never” in the app.

Bluetti: ECO mode on the AC180 shuts off AC or DC output under low or no load. The 2025 manual gives an AC threshold of 15–30 W and a DC threshold of 5–10 W, with a 1, 2, 3 or 4-hour timer (an older manual says 10–30 W). The default isn’t stated, so check yours.

Anker SOLIX: Power-saving mode turns the AC or car port off within one hour when output stays below 10 W. Anker specifically recommends turning it off for CPAP use. If you rely on a unit for a CPAP, our best power station for CPAP guide covers runtime too.

2. Overload and surge: off the moment something starts

If the power station keeps shutting off right as a fridge compressor, pump, microwave or power tool kicks in, you’ve hit the surge or continuous limit. Bluetti’s AC180 is rated 1,800 W with a 2,700 W surge, and its manual warns that motors can draw 2–4 times their rated power at startup. Its error E001 means inverter overload. Jackery’s 1000 v2 is 1,500 W rated with a 3,000 W peak; its F8/F9 codes clear once you remove the load. EcoFlow’s DELTA 3 Plus is rated 1,800 W with a 3,600 W surge.

Watch out for the “boost” modes. EcoFlow’s X-Boost (on by default on the DELTA 3 1500) and Bluetti’s Power Lifting let a unit run some appliances above rated output by lowering the voltage. That works for kettles and heaters. It doesn’t work for motors, and on Bluetti, Power Lifting is off by default. Check starting watts against our appliance wattage chart; the numbers apply to power stations as much as generators. If the unit is beeping before it cuts out, see why an inverter is beeping.

3. Temperature protection

Lithium batteries are protected by their BMS from discharging when too hot or too cold. Published ranges: EcoFlow DELTA 3 1500 discharges from −10 to 45°C (14–113°F); Jackery 1000 v2 the same; Bluetti AC180 from −20 to 40°C (−4–104°F), limited to 1,500 W between 30 and 40°C. Charging ranges are narrower, starting at 0°C (32°F). Bluetti’s codes E086/E087 point to discharge temperature, E085/E068 to charging temperature. Jackery’s manual says the unit recovers on its own once it’s back in range. A power station in a winter garage or a summer car is the classic case. More in power stations in cold weather and power station overheating.

4. A discharge limit or low-battery cutoff

If the display still shows charge when the unit dies, check the app. EcoFlow lets you set a discharge limit anywhere from 0 to 30%, and a limit set months ago for battery longevity will cut power at that number. Bluetti’s AC180 manual says to charge below 5%, and if it reaches 0% and shuts down, charge for at least 30 minutes before restarting. Jackery’s low-battery indicator goes steady below 20% and flashes below 5%.

5. Overheating from blocked vents

Running near the rated output for an hour heats the inverter, and the fans have to move that heat out. Manuals warn against blocking ventilation and list fan-blockage alerts, though none we read publishes a fan or shutdown threshold. Keep a few inches clear on every vented side, don’t run it inside a cupboard or a closed bin, and drop the load if the fans are screaming.

6. When the power station keeps shutting off and none of this fits

Unplug everything, charge to 100% from the wall, update the firmware in the app, and try one known load (a lamp) for an hour. If it still cuts out with timers off, no load spikes and normal temperatures, note any error code and contact the manufacturer; it’s a warranty question at that point, not a settings one. If the unit also won’t charge, start with power station not charging. For safe indoor use of lithium batteries generally, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission posts recalls worth checking against your model.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my power station turn off overnight with a CPAP?

A CPAP without a heated humidifier often draws under 25–30 W, which can fall below energy-saving thresholds (25 W on Jackery, 10 W on Anker SOLIX, 15–30 W on Bluetti ECO). Turn the mode off before bed.

Why does my power station keep shutting off when the fridge starts?

The compressor’s starting surge exceeds the inverter’s surge limit, or other loads are already near the continuous rating. Unplug other loads and try again; if it still trips, you need a larger unit.

Is it bad to turn off energy-saving mode?

No. You’ll just lose a little more charge to idle draw when nothing is plugged in. Turn outputs off by hand when you’re done.

Can a power station run all night?

Yes, if capacity covers the load. See how long a power station will run for the math.
